Prince Harry was ’embarrassed’ to show Meghan his Windsor cottage, where he had lived for the previous six years.
In their early years of dating, the Duke expressed concern about Meghan seeing two-bedroom Nottingham Cottage as she walked up the garden path.
Harry wrote in his explosive memoir Spare that he warned Meghan about the ‘dolls house low’ ceilings, but that he was relieved when she seemed unbothered by the humble property.
Meghan, on the other hand, joked about the property being a “frat house,” according to Harry.
“I was excited to welcome Meg to my home, but also embarrassed. Nott Cott was no palace. Nott Cott was palace adjacent – that was the best you could say for it.”
He also admitted that he had no idea how “shabby” some of the furniture was until he brought Meghan to the cottage, where she was dissatisfied with the bean bag and brown sofa.
Meghan and Harry lived on the property together before moving to the newly renovated Frogmore Cottage.
The cottage, which is located within Kensington Palace grounds, was deemed “too small” by Meghan in their Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan.
Harry described how the couple made minor changes to the cottage, such as purchasing Ikea lights and a new second-hand sofa.
Nottingham Cottage was designed by Christopher Wren, who also designed the south front of Hampton Court Palace, the Royal Hospital Chelsea, and the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
