A military doctor in the country has extracted a piece of an unexploded grenade from the body of a wounded soldier, according to a Facebook post from the Ukrainian Military Medics.
Another shot shows a doctor carrying the grenade, while an X-ray scan of the post showed the piece trapped in the soldier’s torso.
The grenade was removed “in the presence of two sappers who were ensuring the safety of medical staff,” reads the post.
Doctors feared that the grenade could explode at any time during the operation, and therefore the surgery was conducted “without electrocoagulation,” an electrical medical treatment that can be used to control bleeding.
The surgery was a success and the soldier was “sent for further rehabilitation,” reads the post.
The grenade was a “VOG grenade” and is usually fired from a grenade launcher.
