Prince Harry reveals favourite perfume of Princess Diana

  • He said that wearing her perfume helped him deal with the loss.
  • Princess Diana died in a car accident in 1997 when he was 12 years old.
  • The Duke of Sussex described how his father’s distinctive aroma affected him.

According to Prince Harry, wearing his mother’s perfume helped him deal with her passing.

Harry spoke about Princess Diana’s passing in a vehicle accident in Paris in 1997 when she was 36 years old, and he was 12 years old, in his book titled “Spare.”

The Duke of Sussex stated that his therapist had advised him to think back on his memories of his mother, particularly “bedtimes in Kensington Palace,” when he would shift from “inhaling her perfume” to “laying in bed.”

He explained that he took “a bottle of Mummy’s favourite perfume to the office” during one of his treatment sessions before describing how it made him feel.

“First, by Van Cleef & Arpels. At the start of our session, I lifted the lid, took a deep sniff. Like a tab of LSD,” he wrote.

“I read somewhere that smell is our oldest sense,” Harry recalled, “and that fitted with what I experienced in that moment, images rising from what felt like the most primal part of my brain.”

He also recalled the evening before his mother passed away and how his father’s distinctive aroma was highly palpable.

“He (King Charles) was always sniffing things. Food, roses, our hair,” he wrote. “He must’ve been a bloodhound in another life. Maybe he took all of those sniffs because it was hard to smell anything over his personal scent. Eau Sauvage.”
