Carole Cook passed away on Wednesday in Beverly Hills from heart failure her husband, the actor Tom Troupe reported. Another legend has left Hollywood.
On Saturday, Cook would have turned 99 years old.
The renowned performer had a long and successful career. The Texas native, who was known as Lucille Ball’s protege, relocated to California at her mentor’s request.
The “I Love Lucy” star persuaded even the aspiring comic to switch her name from Mildred to Carole.
Cook first made his television debut in a 1959 episode of Ball’s “Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse,” and then he later made appearances in 18 episodes of “The Lucy Show” from 1963 to 1968, five episodes of “Here’s Lucy,” and a cameo in a few more episodes.
In a 1965 episode of the game show, two redheaded friends also played “Password” together.
Cook, who had signed with Desilu, even moved into Ball’s house after the latter’s divorce from Desi Arnaz in 1960.
In “The Incredible Mr. Limpet” in 1964, Cook played the character’s wife. She played Molly Ringwald’s grandmother Helen in “Sixteen Candles” twenty years later.
Additionally, she had an appearance in a “Grey’s Anatomy” episode in 2006. The actress appeared three times on Broadway as Mrs. Peachum, first in a revival of “Threepenny Opera” in 1954.
Cook later had appearances in the musicals “42nd Street” from 1980 and “Romantic Comedy,” which played from 1979 to 1980.
She also had a protracted run in Australia in 1965 as Dolly Levi in “Hello, Dolly!” Cook most recently gained notoriety by advocating the murder of former President Donald Trump.
She asked a photographer, “Where is John Wilkes Booth when you need him, right?” in September 2018.
The Secret Service didn’t take long to visit her.
She subsequently said, “They couldn’t have been kinder.” I declared, ‘I can’t go to jail. The stripes are horizontal, and I don’t think they suit me.
