  • NEPRA reduced power tariff by Rs 7.43 per unit
  • The tariff will be applicable K-Electric consumers
  • The decision would provide a relief of Rs10.61bn

KARACHI: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) announced a reduction in power tariff by Rs7.43 per unit for K-Electric (KE) consumers.

The reduction has been made on account of fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for November 2022. The authority held a public hearing on 27 December 2022.

The reduction in tariff was approved after the public hearing to consider the monthly fuel adjustment (MFA) on a petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee.

NEPRA said the decision would provide a relief of Rs10.61 billion to power consumers. The FCA for October last year was charged with a reduction of Rs2.45 per unit. In November 2022, the FCA was Rs4.98 per unit lower the preceding month.

This will, however, not apply to lifeline customers, domestic customers using up to 300 units, agricultural customers, or electric vehicle charging stations.

Meanwhile, NEPRA approved a hike in power tariff by Rs0.19 per unit for rest of the country on account of monthly fuel adjustment (MFA).

The hike in tariff was approved after the public hearing to consider the monthly fuel adjustment (MFA) on a petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee.

NEPRA has issued notification of the increases in electricity prices and the recent hike will be charged in the bills for January 2023. The increase will not be applicable for the lifeline, electric vehicle charging stations and K-Electric consumers.
