Francis Ford Coppola clarifies the air about the rumors that “Megalopolis” was chaotic

Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project that he self-funded, appeared to be in grave danger Wednesday after a report that it had fallen into “chaos.” The departure of the art department and the VFX team, along with the departure of several important creatives from the project, gave the situation a bleak appearance. Coppola, on the other hand, is one individual who is not concerned about the movie. The iconic director recently responded to Deadline, passionately disputing the idea that Megalopolis had degenerated into chaos.

From the set of the movie, Coppola told Deadline, “I love my cast, I love what I’m receiving each day, I am on schedule and on budget, and that’s what is essential to me. He discussed the numerous recent events that led to the perception that the movie had deviated from its course in the piece. He clarified the closure of the art and VFX divisions in particular. He acknowledged that there were a lot of turnovers, but he made it clear that it was only the product of some restructuring and cost-cutting, not the catastrophic event that was thought to have occurred.

Coppola initially used experimental virtual production technologies, but when costs skyrocketed, he discovered that handling the majority of the effects in post-production was more cost-effective. In order to stay within budget, the VFX team was reduced. Given Coppola’s propensity to frequently reorganize the creative community, it is unsurprising that the art department quit over creative disagreements about personnel.

Coppola is pleased with the personnel, timeline, and money he was able to work with for the remainder of the production. He was very complimentary of the cast, which also features Dustin Hoffman, Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Talia Shire, Shia LaBeouf, and Jason Schwartzman. Added him:

“I’ve never worked on a film where I was so happy with the cast. I am so happy with the look and that we are so on schedule. These reports never say who these sources are. To them, I say, ha, ha, just wait and see. Because this is a beautiful film and primarily so because the cast is so great. I’ve never enjoyed working with a cast who are so hardworking and so willing to go search for the unconventional, to come upon hidden solutions. It is a thrill to work with these actors and the photography is everything I could hope for. The dailies are great. So if we’re on schedule, and I love the actors and the look is great, I don’t know what anyone’s talking about here”

Coppola is someone who is accustomed to a little bit of turmoil on-site. He overcame many challenges during the making of the Vietnam War epic Apocalypse Now, including hurricanes, the significant replacement of Harvey Keitel with Martin Sheen, payroll theft, and other challenges. Even The Godfather ran into difficulties because Coppola frequently fought with executives at Warner Bros. to get the movie he desired. The renowned director regarded his most recent epic to be easy sailing in comparison to those productions and other problematic movies.

For what it’s worth, Coppola wasn’t the only person to publicly support the Megalopolis film. The driver went into great detail regarding the alleged drama on the set. He replied, “I’d want to quickly comment on the piece that was published in The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, January 9th.”This is all good! I’m not sure which set you’re referring to! I’m not familiar with that one! I’ve been on hectic sets before, but this one is by no means one of them.”

He continued by applauding the film’s direction by Coppola and the efforts of the other departments that made it feasible. He added that the departures of the art and VFX departments were just a result of the film’s distinctive creative process. Although it’s impossible to know for sure what’s happening behind the scenes, Driver’s unwavering faith in the production should allay some worries about the movie’s future.

Coppola continues to have great expectations for Megalopolis’s debut. He claims that after beginning production in October, it should be finished by the spring of 2023. Once it is ready for release, he intends to forego the typical festival route in favor of something far more opulent. He declared, “I’m interested in a theatrical release in cinemas, including IMAX theatres, and I’m intrigued about the prospect that a movie might debut on the same day around the world for the first time in history. And that is what I hope to achieve.

Following the catastrophic collapse of New York City, the story is reported to follow an architect as they attempt to build an ideal, futuristic utopia. The plot has been kept largely under wraps.
