IND vs SL: Virat Kohli scored a superb century to contribute India to a 67-run victory in the first game of their three-match one-day international series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday in Guwahati.
In his 87-ball performance, Kohli scored 113 runs while hitting 12 fours and a six. It was the former captain’s 45th ODI century, putting him just four short of Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record.
After being put in to bat first, India’s innings ended at 373-7, with captain Rohit Sharma scoring 83 and Shubman Gill scoring 70.
In response, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka scored an unbeaten 108, while opener Pathum Nissanka made a solid 72, but it was insufficient as the visitors were unable to chase the large total.
The teams will next compete in the second One-Day International (ODI) on Thursday in Kolkata, followed by the third and final match on Sunday in Thiruvananthapuram.
India won the Twenty20 series 2-1 prior to the ODI series.
