- Rohit Sharma missed both the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
- He got finger injury during the second ODI against Bangladesh .
- India defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in the series.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, made a statement at the pregame press conference prior to the opening ODI matchup against Sri Lanka in Guwahati.
After being absent for more than a month, Rohit Sharma will soon make a comeback. The Indian captain missed both the home T20I series against Sri Lanka and the Test series against the Tigers due to a finger injury he suffered during the second ODI against Bangladesh on December 7.
India defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in the series thanks to Hardik Pandya, who took over for Rohit in his absence. There have been discussions about the future of the T20 team since India’s exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final in November.
Rohit spoke about his plans for the T20 format ahead of the first ODI against Sri Lanka. “First and foremost, back-to-back matches are not permitted. You must give them (all-format players) adequate rest. That describes me perfectly.
“We have three Twenty20 Internationals against New Zealand. We’ll have to wait and see what happens after IPL. I haven’t decided to abandon the format.”
It was confirmed hours before the press conference that Jasprit Bumrah will be unavailable for the ODI series. Though he was not initially named to the ODI squad, the BCCI later announced that Bumrah would play in the series.
