- Explosives discovered by magnet fisher searching a river for objects of interest.
- Police believe they may have been left over from demolition of former railway line.
- Knife, shotgun shells and BB gun were found during the search at Long Melford.
After explosives were taken out of the water by a magnet fisher searching a river for objects of interest, the fisher had to notify the police.
Following the discovery of the explosives on the railway track, Suffolk Police reported that it had to close a portion of the B1064 at Long Melford on Saturday.
They may have been left over from when the Bury St. Edmunds line was demolished in the 1960s.
The items were removed by an explosive ordnance disposal team.
The knife, several shotgun shells, and a BB gun were also discovered, according to the Sudbury and Haverhill Police team, but it was the explosives that caused the road to be closed. The fisher was reportedly working from a bridge.
It said the area still had “disused railway status”.
As part of Dr. Beeching’s branch line closures, the line was shut down.
