Saddam Hussain, a former captain of the Pakistan national team, lamented the country’s dismal status of football after the All India Football Federation (AIFF) presented ‘Vision 2047’ on Saturday.
Hussain was dissatisfied that the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has been unable to stage fair elections for the past five years.
“The Indian football federation has set a roadmap to 2047 but here in Pakistan we can’t even organise fair elections for the previous five years. “Those in charge of football in Pakistan should be ashamed of themselves,” Hussain remarked.
“Players are also suffering as a result of the lack of a formal football league,” he continued.

In June 2022, FIFA overturned the ban imposed on the PFF in April 2021 owing to improper third-party intervention.
FIFA also extended the Normalization Committee’s mandate by 12 months.
As per FIFA, the Normalization Committee’s mandate includes overseeing the PFF’s daily operations, ensuring correct registration and scrutiny of clubs in Pakistan, drafting and ratifying an electoral code for the PFF with the support of FIFA and the AFC, organizing elections at the district and provincial levels, and conducting elections for a new PFF executive committee.
It should be mentioned that “Vision 2047” was created in collaboration with all Indian Football stakeholders and incorporated input from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
India being one of the top four footballing nations in Asia, hosting one of the top leagues in Asia, and developing a thriving footballing ecosystem are the main goals of the plan.
‘Vision 2047’ has been divided into six four-year strategic programmes for careful implementation. The first of these aims to span the years up to 2026.
“Vision 2047 presents a picture of where we want Indian Football to be at the start of a century of our nation’s freedom,” AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey stated during the ceremony.
“At a time when India’s position is becoming increasingly prominent on the world stage, we begin on a journey as grandiose as our nation itself. However, this is not a journey that will be undertaken alone by the Federation, but rather by every body associated with Indian football.
“With a common vision and shared accountability, we can undertake focused programmes to address critical areas outlined in this roadmap and assist create capacity for the football ecosystem,” Mr Chaubey added. “I hope of resurrecting the glory days of Indian Football as it was in the 1950s and 60s and becoming a powerhouse of Asian football once again. It is our right to dream and our responsibility to do all possible to make that goal a reality. Together, we can reach new heights in Indian football.”
