The Ukraine military forces , killed a large of number of Russian soldiers , and former officials, a high number of Russian servicemen.
According to both Ukrainian and pro-Russian accounts, the strike occurred shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day. On a vocational school housing Russian conscripts in Makiivka, Donetsk region.
The strike prompted pro-Russian military bloggers to criticize Moscow’s military, claiming that the troops lacked protection and were reportedly quartered next to a massive store of ammunition, which exploded when Ukrainian HIMARS rockets hit the school.
According to Russian state news agency TASS, Russian senator Grigory Karasin warned Monday that individuals responsible for the deaths of Russian servicemen in Makiivka must be found.
Karasin, chairman of the Federation Council’s International Affairs Committee, said the victims should not be forgotten.
According to reports, video from the scene of the strike was extensively disseminated on Telegram, including on an official Ukrainian military channel. It depicts a pile of flaming rubble, with almost no visible remains of the building.
“Greetings and congratulations” to the separatists and conscripts who “were brought to the captured Makiivka and crowded into the vocational school building,” the Strategic Communications Directorate of Ukraine’s Chief Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces announced on Telegram. “Santa carried roughly 400 [Russian soldiers’] corpses in sacks.”
According to the Russian military ministry, the Ukrainian attack used HIMARS rockets manufactured in the United States.
Former official in Russia-backed Donetsk administration Daniil Bezsonov remarked on Telegram that “probably, the upper command is still unaware of the capabilities of this weapon.”
“I hope that individuals who made the decision to use this facility will face consequences,” Bezsonov stated. “In Donbas, there are plenty of abandoned institutions with robust buildings and basements where people can be quartered.”
“Nearly all of the military equipment that was standing close to the building with no evidence of camouflage was also destroyed,” Girkin stated. “As many persons are still missing, there are no final numbers on the number of casualties.”
Girkin has frequently criticized Russian generals who, he believes, command the war operation from afar, calling them “unlearned in concept” and unwilling to heed warnings about deploying equipment and soldiers so close together in HIMARS range. Girkin was previously the defense minister of the self-proclaimed, Russian-backed Donetsk People’s Republic, and was convicted guilty of mass murder by a Dutch court in 2014 for his role in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over eastern Ukraine.
Another pro-Russian military blogger, Sergey Markov, stated that there was “a tremendous lot of sloppiness” on the part of the Russian command.
Boris Rozhin, who blogs on the war effort under the alias Colonelcassad, claims that “incompetence and an inability to appreciate the experience of combat remain a severe problem.”
“As you can see, despite several months of battle, some conclusions are not reached, resulting in avoidable losses that could have been avoided if the basic procedures relating to personnel dispersal and concealment had been implemented.”
Donetsk has been held by pro-Russian rebels since 2014, and it is one of four Ukrainian districts that Moscow attempted to annex in violation of international law in October.
