According to her friend Lucy Fraser, Meghan Markle was used as the palace’s scapegoat.
“So they would feed stories on her weather they were true or not to avoid less favorable stories being printed,” Fraser explained in the fifth episode of the couple’s Netflix documentary.
Talking about the royal family’s strategy, Meghan Markle said, “You would just see it play out. Like a story about someone in the family would pop out for a minute and they’d go, “We gotta make that go away.”
Following the disclosure of the Duchess of Sussex’s letter to her father to the British media, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry accused the royal family of failing to safeguard the young woman.
Meghan said that she had spoken with the Queen and the Prince of Wales at the time before writing the letter.
She claimed that although the royal family had promised to take action against the newspaper that had published her private letter, no concrete steps had been made.
