The House will meet at noon ET even though there is still no speaker elected. However, a GOP source familiar with the situation indicated that it’s likely that the House may adjourn right away so that talks can go on for the rest of the day.
A nominee needs 218 votes, however if members abstain, that number could rise or fall. Before a speaker is chosen, the House cannot convene the new Congress or swear in new members.
