Prince Harry is talking about his and Meghan Markle’s decision to stop working as royals.
“Silence is betrayal,” and what he says about making peace with his father King Charles and brother Prince William.
As the release of his memoir, Spare, on January 10 approaches, both are sharing parts of their interviews with the Duke of Sussex. In which he continues to talk about why he and Meghan left the U.K. for California.
Harry tells Tom Bradby, who doesn’t ask any questions, “It didn’t have to be this way.” Harry tells how stories are planted.” He then says to Bradby, “I want a family, not an institution.”
In another part of the documentary, Harry says, “They think it’s better to keep us as the bad guys. They haven’t shown any willingness to make peace,” but it’s not clear who he’s talking about.
He also says: “I’d like to have my dad back. I wish my brother would come back.”
Harry talks more about “leaks” in the media and how negative stories about him and Meghan have hurt them. He also explains to Cooper why he is talking about these things in public.
“Every time I tried to do it in private, there have been briefings, leaks, and stories that were made up about me and my wife,” Harry says. “”Never complain, never explain” is kind of a family motto… It’s just a saying that doesn’t really mean anything.”
The Duke of Sussex then explains how information about the royal family gets into stories while still protecting family members.
“Through leaks, they will talk to or have a conversation with the correspondent. The correspondent will have literally spoon-fed information and write the story.
At the end, they will say they reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment, but the whole story is Buckingham Palace commenting,” he says.
He adds, “So when we’ve been told for the last six years that we can’t put out a statement to protect you, but you can do it for other family members, silence becomes betrayal.”
The eagerly awaited book comes after the couple’s Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, which revealed a lot about them. The father of two promises a “first-hand account of my life that is accurate and completely true.”
According to his publishers, the book will cover his life in the public eye from the time he was a child until now. It will talk about things like how committed he is to service. How his military duty took him twice to the front lines of the war. How happy he is to be a husband and father.
“Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait that shows readers that behind everything they think they know is an inspiring, courageous, and uplifting human story.”
Penguin Random House said in a statement about the memoir, which is being called “the definitive account” of the Duke of Sussex’s life.
