  • Pakistan went into the break with no wickets.

PAK vs NZ:  Devon Conway remained strong after Tom Latham’s withdrawal from the opening combination in the second Test against Pakistan after lunch on day 1.

New Zealand took the lead after the left-handed batsman scored his fourth century in Tests.

New Zealand’s opening pair scored 134 runs before losing Tom Latham for 71. After scoring a century in the previous match, Latham made an impressive first-innings run.

Conway’s resolute batting brought New Zealand to 226-1 after 58 overs, allowing them to have tea. Conway reached 120 while not out on 179 balls. On the other end, Kane Williamson seized over and deftly dealt with the Pakistani bowlers. At tea time, he still had not been out, having scored 29.

Naseem Shah’s wider length delivery got Pakistan’s first wicket as he got rid of Latham.

After lunch, New Zealand started at 119-0 and scored an additional 107 runs at a run rate of 3.89.

Latham and Conway, New Zealand’s opening pair, both struck fifty before lunch on the first day and appeared at ease on the expectedly bouncy ground.

Despite the greenish appearance of the wicket, batting proved to be a breeze.

Pakistan went into the break with no wickets after Mir Hamza’s dismissal was reversed due to the ball missing the stumps at height. It was a solid partnership between Latham and Conway that helped the team reach 119 without loss in 30 overs.
