PAK vs NZ: Tom Latham and Devon Conway, New Zealand’s openers, both got fifty before lunch on the first day of the second Test at National Bank Cricket Arena, and they appeared at ease batting on the expected bouncy pitch.
Despite the greenish appearance of the wicket, batting proved to be a breeze.
Despite having a wicket drop in the first session, Pakistan went into the break with no success after having Mir Hamza’s dismissal reversed due to a high bounce. It was a solid partnership between Latham and Conway that helped the team reach 119 without loss in 30 overs.
In deciding to bat first, the two hitters boosted New Zealand’s confidence.
Latham, who had hit a hundred in the previous Test, struck 67 not out, while Conway scored his second fifty of the series. Conway scored 51 before 3 p.m.
It took a little longer for Hamza to get his second Test wicket since the umpire misread the dismissal. Umpires ruled Latham out at number 42 in the order, but a successful review saved him.
