With a pretty cryptic Instagram message, Ranveer Singh greeted his followers a happy new year. At a celebration in his position, he appeared to mimic the sour Lieutenant Dan by projecting a clip from Tom Hanks’s classic movie Forrest Gump. Fans posted encouraging notes to the actor after his most recent movie, Cirkus, which was directed by Rohit Shetty, failed to live up to expectations and performed poorly at the box office. Others even faulted him for the movie’s failure.

On Sunday, the actor released a clip from the Hollywood movie in which Tom wears a party hat and wishes Gary Sinise’s Lieutenant Dan a very happy new year. While everyone else is rejoicing, Dan is sitting dejectedly by the bar covered in confetti. Ranveer wrote as his post’s caption: “I feel you, Lieutenant Dan (party popper and confetti ball emojis) #HappyNewYear.”
