Aircraft worker killed in accident at Alabama airport

Following the accident, which is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, flights were temporarily halted.

Flights were momentarily halted Saturday after an industrial tragedy that claimed the life of a ground worker at Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama.

The incident took place near a parked American Airlines Embraer E175 on an airport ramp at 2:20 p.m., according to a preliminary statement from the Federal Aviation Administration.

In a statement, the parent firm identified the worker’s employer as Piedmont Airlines, an American Airlines regional carrier.

American stated, “We are committed to ensuring that all parties concerned receive the support they require during this trying time.

The identify of the employee has not been disclosed. Requests for more information were not immediately answered by the medical examiner or the local first responders.

After the accident, air traffic was suspended, and the local ground stop continued until 8:30 p.m., according to a statement from the airport.

Wade A. Davis, the airport’s executive director, said in a statement, “We are heartbroken to hear about the unfortunate loss of a team member of the AA/Piedmont Airlines.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA both announced they will conduct investigations.
