Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that his country will not forgive Russia and its aggression after Moscow conducted a barrage of strikes just hours before the New Year.
“Several waves of missile attacks on New Year’s Eve. Missiles against people … No one in the world will forgive you for this. Ukraine will not forgive,” Zelenskyy said on social media.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russia has launched its second significant wave of missile attacks against Ukraine in the past three days, with explosions being reported around the nation on New Year’s Eve.
A series of explosions have blasted the capital, leaving at least one person dead and eight people injured.
A Japanese journalist who had been rushed to the hospital was one among those injured by the explosions, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
According to the city government, two buildings were damaged: a residential structure in a different neighborhood, and a hotel located just south of Kyiv’s city center.
Oleksiy Kuleba, the governor of the area surrounding Kiev, had issued a warning about a potential missile assault and said the area’s air defenses were attacking targets.
“The terrorist country launched several waves of missiles. They are wishing us a happy New Year. But we will persevere,” Kuleba wrote on Telegram in a separate post after explosions shook the capital.
