Former “View” co-hosts are paying tribute to the late journalist Barbara Walters in the wake of her passing.
In a tweet on Friday, Star Jones, who joined Walters as one of the talk show’s initial four hosts in 1997, referred to the 93-year-old as her “sister, mother, friend, colleague, and mentor.”

Meghan McCain, who served as the show’s co-host from 2017 to 2021, also paid tribute to the late “trailblazer” on Twitter.
The 38-year-old said, “Her hard-hitting questions & inviting nature made her a household name & trailblazer in American journalism.”
McCain stated, “I will always be grateful for her conception of The View. “Rest in peace, you’ll always be a legend.”

Her representative told that Walters passed away on Friday night at her home in New York City while “surrounded by loved ones.”
She has no regrets throughout life, the spokeswoman said. She paved the way for all women, not just female journalists.
In 1961, Walters started working at NBC as a writer and researcher. In 1974, she finally became the first female co-host of the “Today” show.
Before beginning production on “The View” in 1997, the legend went on to host “ABC Evening News” and “20/20.”
In 2014, when she made her final appearance on the ABC program, Walters told the audience that she had no future plans to “present on another program or climb another mountain.”
She stated at the time, “Instead, I want to sit on a sunny field and enjoy the extremely bright women — and OK, some guys too — who will be taking my place.
The next year, the Daytime Emmy winner announced her formal retirement. Donald Trump had her last broadcast interview in December 2015.
In 2016, Walters was last spotted in the media. Jacqueline, her daughter, is the only one left.
