La Liga: Court suspends Robert Lewandowski’s three-game ban

  • Robert Lewandowski will be able to play against Espanyol.
  • The striker was sent off in Barcelona’s 2-1 win at Osasuna.
  • Barca’s pleas were denied by Spanish Administrative Sports Tribunal.

Robert Lewandowski of FC Barcelona will be permitted to play against Espanyol in Saturday’s La Liga derby after receiving a temporary reprieve from a three-game suspension from a local court.

After Lewandowski received a red card in Barcelona’s 2-1 victory against Osasuna in November, his one-game suspension was increased to two games after he continued to gesture at the referee.

His first appeal was denied by the Spanish Football Federation’s appeal committee, and Barca’s pleas were also denied by the Spanish Administrative Sports Tribunal.

Although the appeal was accepted and the prohibition was temporarily lifted “provisionally until the definitive resolution is reached,” the Central Litigation Court in Madrid accepted the appeal on Friday. The attacker was also scheduled to miss games against Getafe and Atletico Madrid.
