- Ishan Kishan should remain India’s top opener, says Gautam Gambhir.
- The batsman scored a career-high 210 in his most recent ODI game
- Gambhir says it’s time to drop him since Dhawan is out of the ODI squad.
Ishan Kishan, and no one else, should be India’s first-choice opener alongside Rohit Sharma in one-day internationals for the foreseeable future, according to Gautam Gambhir, who played for India in the past and was a batter.
In his most recent ODI game, which took place in Bangladesh earlier this month, Kishan improved upon his first ODI century by scoring a career-high 210. Since Shikhar Dhawan is no longer in the ODI squad, Gambhir thinks that Kishan should continue to play.
When asked who he would want to see as Rohit’s opening partner, Gambhir remarked, “I’m astonished we’re discussing this because someone’s got a double-hundred in the previous innings.” “That’s it, end of debate. Ishan Kishan is the only option. A person who can get a hundred in those conditions against a fair attack, especially at [their] house, should play.
“What was his score by the 35th over? You have no one else to look at besides Ishan Kishan. He needs more time to prove himself. So, not only can he bat, but he can also keep wickets. For that reason, I think we should drop that line of questioning. Even if someone else had scored a perfect 200, I doubt we would have been as enthusiastic about them as we are about Ishan Kishan. It’s because we keep bringing up the same supporting cast. For me, the debate is over.”
