Russell Domingo resigned as the head coach of Bangladesh two days after the home Test series against India. His contract had been set to last till the 2023 World Cup.
After Steve Rhodes was fired by the BCB in September 2019 as a result of the World Cup fiasco, Domingo took over as head coach. Under his leadership, Bangladesh won ODI series in South Africa, at home against India, T20I series against Australia and New Zealand, a Test in New Zealand (for the first time), and an ODI series in South Africa.
Chairman of Bangladesh Cricket Board’s cricket operation Jalal Yunus stated to Cricbuzz on Wednesday, “He (Domingo) sent his resignation letter yesterday (Tuesday) and that is with immediate effect.”
Former BCB president Nazmul Hasan has already made a suggestion that, despite their satisfaction with Domingo’s work, they may fire him since they plan to restructure the coaching staff.
“We are proceeding according to a long-term strategy; it is not a short-term one. It is a three to four year plan, and revisions will be made if they are necessary to carry it out “On Monday, Nazmul told reporters.
The two-match Test series that Bangladesh lost to India by a score of 2-0 will be remembered as Domingo’s final task.
