LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said that it is unlikely that general elections will be held soon and instead an impression is being given that a technocrat government is being set up.
Speaking to a delegation of senior journalists at his residence in Zaman Park, the former prime minister said they had a good working relationship with former army chief General (retired) Qammar Javed Bajwa.
However, he said the former army chief was not concerned about the corruption cases by politicians. He said corruption cases worth Rs1100 billion were finished after making amendments in NAB laws.
The PTI chief said the party has no contact with the establishment at this point. He said it is necessary for those in government to agree on holding elections and it seems that a technocrat government is being set up rather than general elections.
He said it is important that those backing the government should agree on holding general elections. However, he warned that any attempt of political engineering will have adverse effects on the country.
The PTI shief said Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is now just confined to drawing room politics. He said even the mandate of the largest party in East Pakistan was not recognized.
Regarding former army chief General (retd) Bajwa, PTI chief Imran Khan said they had a good working relation but he did a great deal of injustice to the country.
He slammed the PPP and PML-N and said the nation is on the verge of default. He said that the chances of default were 5 percent in their tenure but has reached an alarming 90 percent.
He said both these parties have made amendments to the NAB ordinance to wrap up their corruption cases. He said Pakistan’s problems cannot be solved without establishing the rule of law.
He said the interests of both parties are not aligned with Pakistan and it cannot be expected to cooperate with them on Charter of Economy.
