Maxi Jazz, the lead singer of Faithless, passed away. 65-year-old

The band announced on Facebook and Twitter that he passed away “quietly in his sleep.”

“Yesterday, Maxi Jazz died. He changed our lives forever and gave our songs significance “Facebook remarked.  also had substantial and approachable knowledge. Working with him was an honor.” The statement read, “He was an exceptional lyricist, DJ, Buddhist, car fanatic, endless talker, handsome person, moral compass, and genius.”

Jazz was born in Brixton, London. The Guardian reports he was a London DJ in his 20s. He formed Soul Food Cafe in 1984. They released three EPs in the 1990s before disbanding.

Jazz put Rollo and Sister Bliss on Faithless in 1995. NME reports Reverence was the band’s first album. 1999 BRIT Award nomination for best British dance act for “God Is a DJ”

The V&A reports the band played Glastonbury four times. Faithless played at Coachella in 2007.

Recent albums include All Blessed in 2020 and We Disappear in May.

Jazz also had an on-and-off solo career in the late 1980s, when he put out singles, until he made “Commotion” with Vintage Culture in March.

Jazzi has been a fan of the British soccer team Crystal Palace for as long as he can remember. In 2012, he became the club’s associate director. In a statement posted on Twitter after the news of his death, the club said, “We are saddened by the loss of legendary musician Maxi Jazz, who passed away at the age of 65.”
