LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) will hold a joint parliamentary party on January 2 to devise the strategy for the vote of confidence in the Punjab Assembly.

The decision was taken during an advisory meeting of PTI and PML-Q chaired by former prime minister Imran Khan at his Zaman Park residence. Former federal minister and PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi was also present in the meeting.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the strategy for vote of confidence to be taken by Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

It was also decided that the presence of all the members of the Punjab Assembly from both parties should be ensured in Lahore a day the meeting.

The crucial meeting will take important decisions regarding the political situation in Punjab including consultations on seat adjustments and the chief minister’s vote of confidence. Both parties have already held three rounds on consultations on seat adjustments before the next general elections.

In this meeting, PTI parliamentarians from the National Assembly also deliberated over the strategy to have their resignations approved by Speaker Raja Parvaiz Ashraf.

They expressed concerns that the Speaker would not be present in the Parliament House on December 28 as he will be Larkana to attend the 15th death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto. Speaker NA is expected to depart on an official visit to Australia soon after.

The MNAs condemned the speaker’s departure for a foreign visit after the PTI announced confirmation of their resignation. The party’s statement declared the speaker’s biased role and collusion with the government as an insult to the parliament

During the meeting, Imran Khan blamed the coalition government for pushing the country towards “terror incidents”.

In the wave of a new wave of terror incidents, he said the PTI made Pakistan a hub for foreign tourism but the imposed, corrupt and incompetent rulers are pushing the nation towards terror incidents.

He said national security on the mercy of Zardari’s politically-immature son is “criminal stupidity”. He said the party is watching the situation closely and will resist efforts to expose the nation to a major disaster.

He slammed the incumbent government for benefiting from the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and demanded the announcement of snap polls. He said only a government with a public mandate will be able to manage the economy.
