Jessica Parker Kennedy would be portraying the famed Medusa in the upcoming television series adaption before Lin-Manuel Miranda’s casting as Hermes. Recently, Parker Kennedy has opened up about the difficulties she faced when creating the special effects for her character.
With a number of casting announcements introducing the actors playing the Greek Pantheon characters, the cast for the new Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been slowly but surely coming together.
One of the most dreaded gorgons in Greek mythology is Medusa, who was seduced by the god Poseidon in the temple of Athena and punished by the goddess for the sacrilege by having her hair transformed into snakes.
Anyone who looks at her turns to stone. Using CGI will be necessary to overcome the issue of placing the right number of snakes on Medusa’s head.
Kennedy recently disclosed to Cageside that the character’s filming presented a few challenges for the studio, citing the restrictions and discomfort she had to deal with.
Regarding the method, Kennedy said:
“Parts of the scenes we did with some prosthetic snakes, so that was very cool. And other stuff, I had the little mo-cap on my head, which is like a very ridiculous, horrible looking little cap that doesn’t flatter anyone. And so I was doing this regal part with that on. So you really just have to deep dive into character and do the best that you can, but it’s easy because the writing is really wonderful in the show. I think people are going to love it.”
Kennedy may find it challenging to meet the CGI criteria during filming, but she is undoubtedly not the only one who will face such challenges.
With Rick Riordan serving as executive producer, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is slated to be a very faithful adaptation of the best-selling author’s book.
This implies that there will be many members of the Greek Pantheon to portray, which means that some will require some CGI work to make their characters suitable for the big screen.
Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Megan Mullally, Jason Mantzoukas, Glynn Turman, Tim Sharp, Dior Goodjohn, Olivea Morton, Adam Copeland, Suzanne Cryer, and Charlie Bushnell are among the actors who appear in the series.
Jay Duplass and Timothy Omundson, two recently added cast members, will appear as guests. James Bobin is directing the pilot episode, which was co-written by Riordan and Jon Steinberg.
Executive producers include Steinberg, Bobin, Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Dan Shotz, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, Anders Engström, Jet Wilkinson, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein of Gotham Group. The series is nearly finished with its filming.
The first season of the show has not yet been given a release date, although it is currently aiming for 2024.
