Sana Mir withdraws from the management committee of PCB

  • Najam Sethi assumed leadership of the management committee.
  • Sana Mir, a former captain of the Pakistan women’s team, was listed as a member.
  • She has declined the position for the time being.

Sana Mir, a former captain of the Pakistan women’s team, has stated that she “won’t be able to participate” on the management committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Najam Sethi assumed leadership of the management committee on Wednesday after receiving the go-ahead from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

A 14-member committee with Sethi as its head was established by the government, which is led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), to supervise PCB operations during the 120 days prior to the election period specified in the 2014 constitution.

Sethi serves as the chairman of the management committee, and other members are Gul Zada, Aized Syed, Tanvir Ahmed, Gul Muhammad Kakar, Ayaz Butt, Nauman Butt, Shahid Afridi, Shafqat Rana, Haroon Rashid, Sana Mir, Mustafa Ramday, and Chaudhry Arif Saeed.

Sana was listed as one of the committee members. Sana just joined the Federation for International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA) as an independent director.

The former cricket player-turned-commentator has, however, declined the position for the time being, stating that she hopes to contribute through her role in FICA and commentary.

Sana tweeted, “It is very humbling to be named in the PCB mgmt [management] com [committee]. I would like to express my gratitude to all decision-makers and everyone around the world who congratulated me. For now, I’ll not be able to participate as I look fwd [forward] to contribute through my independent voice in FICA & thru comm.”

According to the 2014 PCB constitution, which has already been approved by the Ministry of Law with a few minor revisions, the management committee would simplify PCB operations for at least 120 days prior to holding the elections.
