Sydney Thunder waived Afghanistan fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi after he was interviewed by Cricket Australia’s conduct commissioner.

After an altercation on Thursday, the club reportedly got a complaint regarding Farooqi’s behavior and forwarded the subject to CA’s integrity unit for inquiry. Thunder opted to cancel his contract after an investigation, hearing, and judgement by the commissioner.

In a statement, CA noted that the specifics of this case “are secret” and that the company would make “no further comment.” Apparently, the police were not called to the scene.

According to Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon, “The behaviours displayed by Fazalhaq Farooqi sit outside our values and it was determined that his contract be terminated,”

It is now our top priority to help people who have been impacted by this tragedy.

The Thunder have not yet settled on a replacement.

After David Willey withdrew from the competition in November, Farooqi was brought in to take his place. All four of Thunder’s games so far have begun with him on the field. He performed admirably in his first match for the team, picking up two wickets against the Melbourne Stars and three against the Adelaide Strikers.
