PAK vs NZ: Hasan Ali selected to Pakistan’s Test squad

  • Hasan Ali replaces Mohammad Ali who was benched for England series.
  • Kamran Ghulam has played 44 first-class matches scoring 3268 runs.
  • Haris Rauf is healing from an injury he got while fielding in Rawalpindi Test.

Fast bowler Hasan Ali was called up to the Pakistani Test team for the two-match series against New Zealand that begins on December 26. He is joined in the squad by middle-order hitter Kamran Ghulam, who has no previous experience.

According to a formal announcement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Hasan has replaced Mohammad Ali, who, like Faheem Ashraf, has been instructed to compete in the Pakistan Cup currently taking place in Karachi, while Kamran has replaced Azhar Ali, who announced his retirement last week.

Hasan played the final of Pakistan’s 21 Test matches against Sri Lanka at Galle in July of this year but was benched for the England series, which the Babar Azam-led team most recently dropped at home by a score of 3-0. Contrarily, Ghulam has participated in 44 first-class matches, scoring 3268 runs on the way to an average of 47.36, including 10 centuries and 18 half-centuries.

As he is healing from an injury he got while fielding in the Rawalpindi Test, fast bowler Haris Rauf was left off the roster. Fast bowler Naseem Shah, who missed the tests in Multan and Karachi against England because of a shoulder ache, has been deemed healthy and is, thus, still included in the squad.

Now, the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi will host the first Test of the two-match series from December 26–30. The second Test will be held in Multan from January 3–7. Now, January 10, 12, and 14 will see the three ODIs played in Karachi.

The World Test Championship (WTC) cycle will include the two tests between New Zealand and Pakistan. The three one-day international matches between the two countries will be a part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, which will decide who qualifies for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

As a result of the 2021 trip being postponed only minutes before it was set to begin in Rawalpindi, New Zealand will visit Pakistan for the first time in twenty years. Following the tour, New Zealand will go to India from January 18 to February 1 for a visit that will include three ODIs and as many T20Is.
