Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, will become a grandfather in 2023. Next year, his daughter Jennifer and her husband Nayel Nassar are expecting their first child. In a blog post, Mr. Gates discussed how the effects of climate change will leave the next generation with a less favorable planet.
“I started looking at the world through a new lens recently-when my older daughter gave me the incredible news that I’ll become a grandfather next year,” Mr. Gates said in the blog post titled “The future our grandchildren deserve.”
Added he, “Simply typing that phrase, ‘I’ll become a grandfather next year,’ makes me emotional. And the thought gives a new dimension to my work.”
The 67-year-old stated in his blog “When I think about the world my grandchild will be born into, I’m more inspired than ever to help everyone’s children and grandchildren have a chance to survive and thrive.”
He admitted that he was mistaken when he believed in his twenties that grandparents had little to contribute to society in general. But as I become older, I realize how mistaken I was.
Jennifer, his daughter, made the pregnancy announcement in November.

He also addressed the main cause of his worry for the next generation in his blog, which is climate change. According to Mr. Gates, society has already begun to feel the effects of warmer temperatures, and action must be made to save the next generation.
He wrote: “I can sum up the solution to climate change in two sentences: We need to eliminate global emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050. Extreme weather is already causing more suffering, and if we don’t get to net-zero emissions, our grandchildren will grow up in a world that is dramatically worse off.”
