‘Almost Famous’ Musical Will Close After 3-Month Run on Broadway

  •  Almost Famous, which was inspired by the same-named movie, will end in January.
  • The 2000 film Almost Famous, which Cameron Crowe, 65, wrote and directed.
  •  Partially based on his experiences as a young journalist working for Rolling Stone.

Three months after it started performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in October, the musical will give its last performance on January 8. According to producers Lia Vollack and Michael Cassel, it will have played 77 performances as well as 30 previews by the time it closes.

According to a statement from Vollack and Cassel, “Like the music it honours, Almost Famous will survive. On March 17, the cast album will be released, and we eagerly anticipate the numerous performances that will follow in cities and towns all over the nation and the globe.”

Chris Wood (Russell Hammond), Anika Larsen (Elaine Miller), Solea Pfeiffer (Penny Lane), Drew Gehling (Jeff Bebe), Rob Colletti (Lester Bangs/Red Dog/Bonham), and Casey Likes are among the cast members of the show, which is directed by Jeremy Herrin and choreographed by Sarah O’Gleby (William Miller).

Matt Bittner, Chad Burris, Gerard Canonico, Julia Cassandra, Brandon Contreras, Jakeim Hart, Van Hughes, Jana Djenne Jackson, Claire Kwon, Katie Ladner, Danny Lindgren, Erica Mansfield, Alisa Melendez, Kevin Trinio Perdido, Andrew Poston, Emily Schultheis, Daniel Sovich, Libby Winters, and Matthew C. Yee are also featured in the cast.

Tom Kitt, who wrote the music and co-wrote the lyrics for the musical Almost Famous, said earlier this year that creating the performance had “been a joy.”

Kitt praised the writer-director Cameron Crowe as “the loveliest, kindest human being, and full of ideas.” “I feel really pleased to get to tell that tale alongside him since it’s obviously a personal one for him.”

The Old Globe in San Diego, California, hosted the musical’s international premiere in 2019.

This is hardly the first Broadway show to declare its end of the current season. KPOP’s final Broadway performance took place on December 11 at Circle in the Square Theatre, and Ain’t No Mo’s run at the Belasco Theatre is set to end on December 23.
