Royal officials said that Lady Susan Hussey “sincerely apologised” to Ngozi Fulani during a “warm and understanding” meeting at Buckingham Palace.

A royal assistant who quit after asking a Black British charity director where she was “really” from at a palace party apologised in person on Friday and said she would learn more about racism.

Royal officials said that Lady Susan Hussey “sincerely apologised” to Ngozi Fulani during a “warm and understanding” meeting at Buckingham Palace.

“Lady Susan has promised to learn more about the issues and is grateful for the chance to do so,” the palace said in a statement.

It said that Fulani, who started the shelter for women called Sistah Space, “has accepted this apology and understands that no harm was meant.”

The first talk happened last month at a party Camilla, the queen’s partner, put on for women who work to stop domestic violence. Fulani talked about how shocked she was when someone asked her “what part of Africa” she was from.

Hussey, who was Queen Elizabeth II’s lady in waiting for decades, gave up her honorary royal position after the incident.

In a joint statement from the palace, Hussey and Fulani condemned the “appalling torrent of abuse on social media and elsewhere” that had been directed at Fulani. They also said that it had been a “very difficult time” for both of them.

The palace said that King Charles III and the royal family are happy with the “welcome result.”

Last year, Meghan, who is half-white and half-black and is married to Prince Harry, said a member of the royal family asked her what colour skin her first child would have.

The British royal family is once again getting a lot of attention because of a six-part Netflix documentary about Harry and Meghan. In the documentary, the couple blames the royal household and the British media for their decision to quit royal duties in 2020 and move to California.
