ISLAMABAD: The ruling coalition government has summoned party meetings after PTI Chairman Imran Khan announced to dissolve the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a meeting of the PML-N to discuss the political situation after the announcement by the PTI Chairman.
The meeting will consider various legal and constitutional aspects of the decision. PML-N senior leadership and federal ministers will attend the meeting tomorrow.
The allied Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has also called an important meeting after the announcement of the dissolution of the assemblies.
The crucial meeting will discuss the party’s plan of action over the decision. The party members will be informed about the time of the meeting in the next 24 hours and have been instructed to ensure participation.
It must be mentioned that Imran Khan announced to dissolve the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on December 23. He said the move was necessary in their struggle to force the government to hold fresh elections.
The ruling coalition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is perplexed after Imran Khan made the long-awaited decision in an attempt to compel the government to hold general elections.
PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman has reported reached Islamabad from Dera Ismail Khan after hearing the news of the dissolution of the assemblies.
Sources revealed that preparations are being made to convene the PDM summit next week. The PDM leadership will hold consultations on the elections in Punjab and KP.
The PDM will consider an alliance in the two provinces to contest the election or seat adjustment, sources further revealed. The meeting will also discuss postponing the election after consulting legal experts. The meeting will also consider submission of no-confidence motions in both provinces.
