ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday dwells on the soaring polio cases in Pakistan and reiterates that the government is committed to ending the contagious disease in the country.
The prime minister was on a call with Bill Gates last night when assured him that the Pakistani government will keep working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation against the virus.
He while taking it to Twitter said, “In a phone call last night, Bill Gates & I discussed polio eradication challenges in our flood-hit areas. The government will continue to work with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to ensure no child remains at risk of this deadly virus. I thanked Mr Gates for his consistent support.”
Pertinently, Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries left with active polio cases in 2022.
The premier discussed with Gates that the flood victims have been facing health challenges including polio. The PM assured him that the government has been actively working for those in the flood-hit areas.
On the occasion, Bill Gates also expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in Pakistan owing to recent floods.
