YouTube has enhanced its spam detection systems

  • YouTube has improved its automatic detection tools to spot and remove comment spam
  • The company has also improved its bot detection in discussions.
  • Using special characters to mimic famous authors will become less successful.

YouTube is improving its anti-spam and anti-impersonation procedures. The YouTube Studio team has included a new commenting option for content makers. There will be an option for them to be more stringent if they so choose. This, according to YouTube, will reduce spam and identity-theft related comments and is an expansion of the existing option to hold potentially problematic comments for evaluation. As opposed to completely disabling comments or demanding human permission for each one, this approach provides more leeway.

YouTube’s previous attempts to address the problem have not eliminated the persistent problem of spam. Today, in response, the platform published a community post that explains the current scenario and explores potential future capabilities that could, ideally, avert the problem.

YouTube has improved its automatic detection tools to spot and remove comment spam. Just in the first half of 2022, the automated detection system has already deleted over a billion spam comments. The company has also improved its bot detection in discussions, which should lead to better experiences for customers in the future.

In relation to this topic, it will soon be less effective for false channels to impersonate more well-known authors by employing special characters. YouTube claims it is restricting the possible character set for channel name changes. It was said that after the change, bad actors wouldn’t be able to hide behind aliases like “YouTube.”
