The purported finding was found during the arrest of Torrey Moore, 31, of Silver Spring, Maryland. Police in Maryland discovered the decomposing remains of a pregnant woman in the residence of a man they arrested last week in connection with a second alleged killing, according to police.
Thursday, Torrey Moore, 31, of Silver Spring, was arrested and charged with shooting and killing Ayalew Wondimu, 61, at a gas station convenience store. On Friday, Montgomery County police claimed they discovered the body after they arrested and charged Torrey Moore, 31.
Thursday around 3 p.m., Moore allegedly fought with Wondimu, an employee of the Dash In convenience store at the Shell gas station at 11150 New Hampshire Avenue, according to the police. The police allege that a verbal disagreement that began when Moore approached the counter grew physical, and Moore shot Wondimu in the chest multiple times with a revolver he had in his vest.
According to authorities, Wondimu was pronounced deceased at the scene.
When officials secured a no-knock search order for Moore’s apartment and searched it early Friday morning, they found the body “in an advanced state of decay,” according to police.
According to county police, More told investigators that he was in a relationship with the deceased woman and that she was eight months pregnant at the time of her death.
He also told police that “some type of altercation between the two about a month ago led to the victim’s death previous to today,” Investigators Chief Marcus Jones told reporters on Friday, adding that police believe the lady resided in the flat.
The police arrested Moore at his flat and charged him with first-degree murder and criminal possession of a handgun.
The medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy, and the woman’s identity and additional charges will not be released until the cause and manner of death are determined, according to police.
Tony Pineda, a two-year resident of the apartment complex, told that he sensed an odour emerging from the building.
“It simply reeks of garbage,” he told the channel. “I’m not sure. It’s just a foul odour.
“It’s incredible to think it’s right here,” he continued.
Jones told reporters on Friday that police are “a little bit surprised that we did not receive any calls — none that we have seen so far — that would have alerted us to the fact that something was happening in that apartment.”
