KARACHI: Secretary Education Department Sindh has informed the Sindh High Court (SHC) that the education department has identified 1,645 teachers who are absent from duty.
A hearing was held in the High Court regarding the ghost teachers of the Education Department.
Secretary Education Sindh has submitted the written report in SHC, stating that the education department has completed scrutiny of the absent teacher and action will be taken on December 31. He further submitted that a total of 1,645 teachers have been identified who remained absent from duty while show-cause notices were served to 1,481 teachers.
The court questioned why no action was taken against the ghost teachers before the court order. The court expressed displeasure at not getting a satisfactory response.
The court inquired about what modern procedures have been adopted to ensure the attendance of teachers and students.
Chief Secretary and education secretary said in a statement that a biometric system is necessary for the attendance of teachers and students.
The court ordered the introduction of a modern system to eliminate ghosts and absentee teachers.
