Cleaners at Twitters headquarters are angry with Musk

  • According to Mr. Chiu, Elon Musk has a long history of disobeying labor regulations.
  • A state legislator from California claimed that Mr. Musk was treating the former employees “like garbage.”
  • Cleaning staff at Twitter’s San Francisco offices claim they were fired without notice.

One of them said that an Elon Musk team member had claimed that robots will take their jobs.

A state legislator from California claimed that Mr. Musk was treating the former employees “like garbage.”

David Chiu, the city attorney for San Francisco, stated that he is looking into whether Elon Musk broke any laws.

According to Mr. Chiu, Elon Musk has a long history of disobeying labour regulations.

“We will be looking into this further,” the manager said. “While I’m not shocked this happened, I feel for these workers.”
Four cleaners who claim to have been dismissed from Twitter on Monday spoke with the BBC; their interviews were conducted in Spanish.

Four-year Twitter employee Adrianna Villarreal expressed concern that she won’t have enough money to feed her family for the holidays.

For our families and kids, it’s a sad and frustrating thing, she said.

The cleaners were employed by Twitter last week until they received word that their positions were in jeopardy.

The cleaners’ union’s president, Olga Miranda, said they planned a walkout on Monday in protest. The cleaners were subsequently informed that their dismissal was effective right away, according to her.

Three weeks before Christmas, she remarked, “They did this.” We were let go because we belong to a union, I believe.
For ten years, Julio Alvarado worked as a cleaner at Twitter. He claims that throughout his tenure there, the atmosphere was always welcoming.

But he claims that after Elon Musk took over Twitter in October, everything changed.

He said to the sources, “People worked without worrying. Now we are afraid.”

Mr. Alvarado claims that ever since Mr. Musk bought the business, he has been escorted by private security while cleaning certain areas of the office.

Additionally, he claims that a member of Mr. Musk’s team informed him that his position will someday become obsolete due to the inevitable replacement of human cleaners by robots.

Mr. Alvarado claims that if he loses his work, he will have trouble paying his payments. Additionally, he claims to be providing for his family in Mexico.

He says, “I can only claim that I don’t have money to pay the rent.” I don’t know what I’m going to do because I won’t have health insurance.

Juana Laura Chavero Ramirez claimed to have spent five years working for Twitter. She worries that she won’t be able to receive her diabetes medication.

It’s really awful, she declared. “We’re losing our money in addition to our work,”

Adrianna Villarreal, a Twitter employee since 2018, expressed concern that she wouldn’t be able to afford Christmas presents.

She replied, “Overnight we don’t have anything; we’re meant to have Christmas presents for our kids, a plate of food on our table.

Since there aren’t many openings for cleaners in San Francisco right now, the cleaners claim they are at a loss on what to do.

Since Monday, a small group of cleaners has demonstrated in front of the San Francisco office of Twitter.

Senator Scott Wiener of California told that the cleaners had been handled “horribly.”

In the near future, Mr. Wiener remarked, “I’d want to see him [Elon Musk] treat his janitors like human beings and get them back to work – not simply kick them out right before Christmas.”
