Vladimir Putin makes rare public comments about Russian strikes

  • Vladimir Putin discusses Russia’s strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
  • Who hit Crimea’s bridge? Who blew up Kursk’s power lines?

Vladimir Putin has made rare public comments that the attacks by the Russian Armed Forces on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

He addressed a gathering of soldiers receiving honors while holding a glass of champagne at a Kremlin awards ceremony for “Heroes of Russia.”

“Yes, we are doing it. But who started it?” said the president — who ordered the invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24.

He listed a series of events he blames on the Ukrainians: “Who hit the Crimean bridge? Who blew up the power lines from the Kursk nuclear power plant?”

The Kerch bridge, which connects Crimea to Russia, was damaged in part by an explosion on October 8 that was caused by a truck crossing it.

This explosion is the reason for the reference to the bridge. Although the Ukrainians have never admitted guilt, the Kremlin has been quick to blame Kiev.

There is no doubt that “further acts of terrorism on the territory of Russia will be harsh,” as Putin stated in the days following the bridge explosion.

Putin drove a car across the bridge last week after making an appearance on it to observe renovations.

The mention of Kursk appears to be a reference to Russia’s declaration that a drone attack was made on an airfield in the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine.

The recent explosions, which have occurred throughout Russia, including in Kursk, have received no reply from the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

According to official statements, the targets are far beyond the capabilities of the nation’s drones.
