According to Google’s anti-hacking unit, North Korean hackers used South Korea’s deadly Halloween crowd crush to spread malware.

State-backed hackers disguised dangerous software as a South Korean government report on Halloween, the Threat Analysis Group claimed Wednesday.

Threat Analysis Group attributed the activity to North Korean government-backed hackers known as APT37, which has targeted South Korean users, defectors, policymakers, journalists, and human rights activists.

Threat Analysis Group stated the bait exploits public curiosity in the accident.

Google reported a software vulnerability to Microsoft on October 31. Microsoft released a fix on November 8.
