LAHORE: A case was heard in the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding the issue of smog in the city – that has reached an alarming level – and ordered the demolishment of industries causing environmental pollution.

The court remarked that the situation has become health hazardous and ordered three days of holidays for schools.

The court while hearing the case maintained that the Punjab government has failed to eradicate smog and the Federal Minister of Environmental Change should be contacted in this regard.

“The ministry should be informed that the smog has reached an alarming level in Punjab,” the court said.

It was also advised that consultancies must be taken from international experts and the Environment secretary to submit implementation reports regarding fines.

The court while remarking on the industries triggering the issue ordered to demolish the industries after one notice if they don’t follow court orders.

It was also said that there is no need to seal all such industries instead just demolish them after one notice.

“Smoke-emitting vehicles should no longer be seen on the roads, such vehicles should also be seized and auctioned after a notice.”
