Two ladies were murdered by a man who characterized himself as a “psychopath with a conscience.”

Mark Brown, 41, of St Leonards, East Sussex, was convicted in 2021 of the murders of Alexandra Morgan and Leah Ware.

His trial at Hove Crown Court heard that he once told his supervisor that he was “going down” for at least 25 years.

Brown, a single father with a long-term spouse, met both ladies on an adult dating website. On January 13, he will be sentenced.

“This is undoubtedly a case of the utmost gravity,” said Judge Mr Justice Nicholas Hilliard, “and the effect on the victims’ families must be simply terrible.”

He stated that Brown will be sentenced to life in prison and that he must determine the minimum jail term or “examine if he will ever be released for parole licence.”

Ms Ware’s body was never discovered. Brown has always said that he has no idea where she is or if she is still alive.

The judge informed the court that if Brown chooses to confirm what he has done with her body, he will consider it between now and sentencing.

Brown claimed Ms Morgan, a single mother of two known as Alex by her friends and family, slipped and fell on a tool or piece of mechanical equipment in a workshop he rented at Little Bridge Farm near Hastings, hitting her head.

The Squirrel Close builder testified in court that there was “a lot of blood” and that he was convinced she had died.

He later admitted to disposing of her body “in a panic” in order to cover up the entire situation. He burned her body in an oil drum incinerator.

Brown was working on a construction site in Sevenoaks when Kent Police questioned him after Miss Morgan went missing in November 2021.

He informed his supervisor, Alan Downs, that he was expecting to be detained.

Brown also sent a buddy the following message: “The things I’ve done have weighed heavily on my heart, mind, and soul. It’s a joke, really, a psychopath with a conscience.”

Ms Ware had vanished six months earlier, police discovered when investigating Ms Morgan’s death in November.

She had moved into Little Bridge Farm after being in a three-year relationship with Brown.

Ms Ware’s friend Tamsin Gregory expressed “concerns” about Brown’s friendship with her.

“He appeared to be quite domineering of her,” she added.
