Enner Valencia, captain of Ecuador and nicknamed “Superman,” led a spirited comeback on Friday that helped the South Americans earn a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in Group A.
The result kept both teams in first place for advancing to the round of 16, while eliminating Qatar’s chances of qualifying.

After Cody Gakpo had put the Dutch ahead in the sixth minute with a sizzling shot, Valencia, 33, tapped in his third goal of the tournament from a rebound in the second half.
This result resulted in both sides advancing to four points. Valencia’s goal was the third of the tournament.
