- Joe Jonas put his name forward to play Peter Parker.
- In addition to appearing in the new war movie Devotion, the Jonas Brothers singer, 33, said on a recent episode of the Just for Variety podcast that he once tried out for the lead part in Marc Webb’s 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man.
- In the end, Andrew Garfield won the part; he also played alongside Emma Stone in the 2014 follow-up. (Garfield, 39, and Tobey Maguire, the former Spider-Man, also returned to their roles in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home last year.)
“You are either defeated or destroyed right then. However, you understand that this individual was great “About not getting cast following an audition, Jonas said. “Years ago, when Andrew Garfield won the role of Spider-Man, I can still remember how delighted I was to be nominated. He was undoubtedly the best choice.”
“Going back for callbacks, however, was something I recall being significant at the time. Additionally, the filmmaker has directed music videos, so I was like, “I got an in here,” “he added “But what about that? I enjoy the process of trying out, putting myself out there, and having to justify myself.”
No, but I’m sure I had one that I would occasionally try on back in the day, Jonas responded when asked if he ever wore the Spider-Man costume during the audition process.
When MTV News questioned Jonas in 2010 on a red carpet about whether he’d be interested in playing Spider-Man at the time that casting was taking place, Jonas largely avoided the topic.

The former Camp Rock star also revealed to Variety that his X-Men and Game of Thrones actress wife Sophie Turner directed him during his recorded audition for the movie Devotion, which also stars Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell.
“Obviously, it’s been a while since I’ve done any acting. I had a tonne of time thanks to the pandemic. I wasn’t really able to go on a tour, so I thought, “Well, what am I going to do with myself here?” “said Jonas. “Acting is something I obviously adore and have always wished to return to. And the audition process was exactly like any other. I recorded my voicemail and returned the call, met the director J.D. [Dillard], we discussed the concept, and things progressed from there.”
And he said, “You must perform at your best when your wife, the brilliant actress Sophie Turner, is the one filming and directing you. She is my harshest judge. Yes, I’ll be a little anxious, but she’s been quite supportive, and I think she’d be a terrific acting coach to assist me out. She deserves my gratitude, too.”
Now playing in cinemas is Devotion.
