Walking on all fours is leading Chinese people to reassess human evolution. South China Morning Post reported last week that university students in Beijing were seen crawling in circles at a playground (SCMP).

Social media has propagated a craze of pupils walking with all four limbs, making them look like animals. The practice taps into a primitive form of human movement and a healthy time when we stood upright, the news agency stated.

#Xiaohongshu Crawling Competition had over 3.8 million views on China’s Instagram-like site Xiaohongshu, according to SCMP. The present trend follows a recent craze on college campuses where students made cardboard animal buddies to reduce their boredom and solitude. The trend helps students stay fit and healthy as Covid-19 instances rise.

One user posted, “Encouraged by all my internet friends, I had a try today and crawled for seven minutes. My cat might have been scared by my hidden skills when I chased him on all fours.”

Another student commented, “Through crawling I find self-fulfillment, wildness, the calling of ancient times, and unexpectedly, firm abs.”

Primal Play recommends walking on all fours.”First and most importantly, quadrupedal movement helps to improve your body’s balance and range of activity. In short, being able to move very quickly on all four limbs helps your body transition more dynamically between two very different states of movements – think of moving very quickly from a crouching position to a standing position, or vice versa,” the site says.
