Rubber bullets were used by police in Thailand to disperse groups of protesters who were demonstrating against the Apec economic meeting that was taking place in Bangkok, according to a statement that was issued by a police official who was in command of the event’s security task force.

An eruption of violence between police and hundreds of demonstrators took place close to the location of the summit, which was attended by leaders from all over the world.

Footage that were shared on social media showed demonstrators racing towards police, throwing missiles, and attempting to flip a police car while cops rushed on them with shields and pushed them back with batons. The videos also showed police officers beating demonstrators back with batons.

A young activist who was present at the demonstration provided a statement to the news agency Reuters. In the statement, the young activist stated that the attendees of the demonstration were also demonstrating against the Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayuth Chan-ocha.

After seizing power in a military coup in 2014, Mr. Prayuth has remained in government in 2019 despite considerable electoral restrictions, despite the fact that he initially gained power in a military coup in 2014. This year, he has been the subject of several votes of no confidence, but each time he has managed to emerge victorious.
