KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan has decided to approach Sindh High Court for Sindh Local Government elections.

A petition to become a party will be submitted in the plea already filed by former mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar.

MQM’s Lawyer said the court was not informed of the real facts.

He submitted that other issues should be settled first and then the second phase of local body elections should be conducted.

Jamaat-e-Islami(JI) and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) have filed petitions against the postponement of local government  elections.

The Chief Justice of Sindh High Court had expressed his annoyance  for not conducting local body elections.

On the other hand, the Sindh High Court (SHC) summoned the provincial election commissioner, IG Sindh, and Chief Secretary Sindh in person in the case of a delay in local government (LG) polls in Karachi.

A two-judge bench ordered the election commissioner, IG Sindh and chief secretary to appear before the court on November 14 and issued a written order in this regard.

The court instructed the IG Sindh to submit a report regarding the deployment of police and rangers.

Earlier, Sindh cabinet has approved the delay in local government (LG) polls in Karachi for 90 days.

The local government department issued a letter to the Election commission in this regard stating that the Sindh Cabinet Karachi division has approved the delay.
