Even though the broadcast was perfectly passable when Amy Schumer hosted Saturday Night Live (SNL) with musical guest Steve Lacy, there were several significant stand-out moments. like this soup-related doodle.
The first thing that happened was that the three companions placed their orders. Heidi Gardner and Ego Nwodim each chose salads, while Schumer chose matzo ball soup.
She immediately began to tell about how much this soup meant to her and how she always had it at this restaurant. The issue is that when Gardner tells them that she and her husband are divorcing, her buddy had something sad to tell them. Their meal may wait, Nwodim advises, so they can hear about all of her issues and happenings in her life.
Now, it’s okay to eat a salad if you want to. How about matzo ball soup, though? You can’t wait to begin eating it until your friend has finished speaking. While Gardner is speaking, Schumer is observing other diners in the establishment, observing how they are consuming their soup and enjoying it, all the while finding creative methods to consume her own without actually eating.
When Gardner lays her head in her hands and Kenan Thompson begins singing to her about the soup, she realizes that this is her time and just begins chugging the soup until she is satisfied. At one point, she tries to drink it with a straw (or more likely until her friend asks her how the soup is).
The best part of this sketch is that by the time it’s over, Schumer claims the soup is still very hot. In theory, she could have waited until her friend had finished venting about her problems and then started eating the soup, and everything would have been fine, but wouldn’t it have been more entertaining to watch her as she tried to figure out how to eat the soup without her friends noticing? fairly good
There are some humorous moments scattered throughout it, such as when Schumer realizes Gardner is talking to her while she isn’t paying attention and just encourages her to do whatever it is she’s talking about, to which Nwodim responds by telling her what a terrible idea it is for her to represent herself in court. Hey, though, when the soup is good, it’s good.
