Gigi Hadid declared she was leaving Twitter, calling it a cesspool of hate & prejudice after Elon Musk took control.
In response to the mass layoffs, which included the human rights team, the 27-year-old supermodel stated on Instagram that she had cancelled her Twitter account on Friday.
Hadid said of Musk, “It’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate & intolerance, and its [sic] not a place I want to be a part [sic] of, especially with its new leadership.”
She added an apology on the platform and said she loves interacting with her fans.
She continued, “I can’t stay it’s a place that’s safe for everyone, nor a social platform that will do more good than damage.
Shannon Raj Singh, a human rights attorney, tweeted about being let go by the internet giant with her message.
In an email to employees on Friday, Twitter laid off about half of their workers, stating that the reductions were “required to ensure the company’s success going ahead.”
Toni Braxton previously declared that she would also avoid the social networking platform.
“Some of the ‘free speech I’ve witnessed on this platform after its takeover has startled and sickened me. Hate speech disguised as “free expression” is unacceptable; as a result, she tweeted last month, “I am opting to be off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons, and other POC.
In October, Shonda Rhimes, Sara Bareilles, and Téa Leoni also said goodbye to Twitter.
Not waiting around to see what Elon has in store. “Bye,” wrote Rhimes.
Last week, Musk stirred up controversy by announcing he would charge a monthly fee for the formerly highly sought-after blue verification check mark.
